Next on our Missouri Real Estate tour is the city of Columbia,
also located in the Central region of Missouri. Columbia is
in the top ten fastest growing cities in Missouri. It is located
in Boone County and as of 2002 carried a population of 84,531.
The median age is 32, and the average income is $33,729. The
median household was $34,000. In 2003 it was reported the
average cost of a new home was $120,300. Columbia ranks below
in the national cost of living. Because of the 2 universities
and 3 colleges, furthering ones education no matter your age
is very attractive to retirees. Columbia was sited as 1999
runner up for the Best Small City in America to live! This
city has an abundance of affordable homes. In the listings
I found 3 bedroom homes with 1-2 baths ranging anywhere from
$90,000 to $129,900. New construction homes listed from $159,00
for 3 bedroom 2 baths to $395,000 for a 4 bedroom 3.5 bath
house. Quite a wide price range for nice homes! Of course
there are nearby Finger State Lake and Rock Bridge Memorial
State Park for the outdoor part of you! Available are: off
road riding, horseback riding, trails, camping sites, boating,
fishing, and cave tours. Nearby Columbia wineries give tours
and taste-tests too. Columbia boasts that it is a “unique
city that combines the quality and culture of larger metropolitan
areas with the warm hospitality of the Midwest”.
Well, I have to know, have you envisioned a place for you
yet? If not, don’t stop reading…….the tour
goes on!
